This Earth Day/global warming stuff in school is getting out of hand. Today, GD4, a second grader, was actually forced to raise his right hand and make this pledge:
My Earth Day Promise
I, (GD4), promise to do my best to keep our earth beautiful. I will recycle and put trash where it belongs. And, whenever I can, I will speak out against air and water pollution.
Ya, ya, I know. There is nothing wrong with keeping our earth "beautiful," although beautiful is subjective and undefined. What if he grows up to think skyscrapers are beautiful?
But do we really need to force children to agree to be activists later in life? Seems at least a little extreme.
