Soulless

I find the bribes offered and accepted by legislators in order to secure a vote on a "date certain" for withdrawl in Iraq one of the most disgraceful political moments in modern history. Representatives fit into one of two categories here:

1. Don't support the war at all but are willing to if the price is right.
2. Don't support timetables but are willing to if the price is right.

Neither group has a shred of honor.

I find it curious that they were willing to throw that honor away on a bill the president has promised to veto all along. And it sure didn't take long for freshman Representatives to sell their souls.

WaPo: As it is, House Democrats are pressing a bill that has the endorsement of MoveOn.org but excludes the judgment of the U.S. commanders who would have to execute the retreat the bill mandates.

Power Line: If the Democrats were willing to fight as hard for victory as they are fighting for defeat, the country would be much better off.

Dan Riehl: What a monumental disgrace.

Texas Rainmaker: I get it now, the Democrats’ war plan is to create so much pork, the muslim terrorists will be forced to leave us alone. It’s the perfect plan!

George Bush: Democrats in the House, in an act of political theater, voted to substitute their judgment for that of our military commanders on the ground in Iraq. They set rigid restrictions that will require an army of lawyers to interpret. They set an arbitrary date for withdrawal without regard for conditions on the ground. And they tacked on billions for pet projects that have nothing to do with winning the war on terror.
