Blake Wheeler!

Well, I was off by one goal, but the Gophers do reveal the Elder to be of little faith. And what a goal it was.

Blake Wheeler, diving, on his belly, in overtime, swatting at the puck with only his left hand on the stick. Fluttering shot over Philippe Lamoureux's left shoulder and into the upper corner. It was so frickin' sweet. Even better than the Okposo goal.

WCHA champs!

The sprawling goal was a perfect end to an incredible game. North Dakota looked great and the pace was outstanding. It could just as easily have gone to UND without Wheeler's heroics.

It was definately one for the history books. Wheeler is named the tourney MVP and he earned it. Four goals including the big one. Great. Really great.

Coach Lucia showed great faith playing a struggling Jeff Frazee in net as well. Frankly, I was shocked. But the youngster played outstanding and gives the Gophers the confidence of having two strong goalies in the NCAAs.

UPDATE: Here's a longer article on the game, and here's video of Wheeler's "goal for the ages." Amazing.
