This weekend, WCCO reporter Sue Howard ran an uplifting story of North Branch nursing student Tia Peterson (now Cunningham), who saved the life of a young Forest Lake girl. Now, I understand Inside Edition plans to follow up with a national story, having seen the story on WCCO.
For some reason that story sounds familiar.
I think it is great that the story is going national and will receive the attention it richly deserves. It would have been nice if, somewhere along the way, somebody bothered to note the original source though. Just a small professional courtesy.
Or, are things like that reserved only for the big leagues?
UPDATE: Had a conversation with Howard and she explained how this works. Apparently no one is obliged to source anyone for anything. That's fine, I expected as much. It just would have been nice. It's not like there were a handful of news organizations beating down this story's door. Just little old me, and it felt kind of exclusive.
I should note that Howard was gracious in her response, and even offered a compliment:
Your story was awesome! I did enjoy reading it and it was really well written.
Meanwhile, Add Splash News to the list of national news outlets sniffing out contact information on the story.
Completely unrelated, the Pioneer Press ran a story today that also has a certain ring of familiarity.
I guess it's just my day.
