RightWingNuthouse has live-blogged a recreation of the battle of Gettysburg, which took place 142 years ago this weekend. This link will get you to a summary of the battle, and these to July 1, July 2, and July 3.
Gettysburg was the high-water mark of the civil war. Poised on the edge of victory, the Confederacy would suffer disasterous defeat at Gettysburg on the same weekend that Grant successfully ended the siege at Vicksburg. It was all over essentially, except for another year and a half of bloody battles as the Confederacy refused to be vanquished by the larger, better supplied Union army.
RightWingNuthouse provides an interesting way to look at this significant battle hour by hour. Check it out.
