The thing about conservatives is that they are so quiet. They don't fire off angry letters and they don't generally consider activism to be a duty to be nurtured on an hourly basis.
When you write a conservative column it can often make you feel very lonely.
So, when an almost complete stranger comes up to you on a smoke break and says "I'm so glad you write for the paper. It's nice to see my views expressed once in a while," it really makes a guy feel good.
It sure made my day.
