Puck Fest

Today marks a celebration capable of taking one's mind off of even the most powerful of distractions.

It's Hockey Day; hours and hours dedicated to feeding the monkey:

...11 consecutive hours of hockey will be shown, highlighting the game from peewees to the pros. Three games at three different levels – St. Paul Johnson high school at Lake of the Woods high school at 1:00 PM, Denver University at the University of Minnesota at 5:30 PM and the Dallas Stars at the Minnesota Wild at 8:00 PM.

The St. Paul Johnson - Lake of the Woods game will be played outside, just for fun.

The concept to host an outdoor hockey game on the Baudette Bay began several years ago because many area hockey legends made their start skating on the Baudette Bay. Young skaters, hoping to play for a team, would begin skating on the Baudette Bay, or on the frozen ravine in Williams, MN, as soon as shore ice would be considered safe. And, in some cases, earlier!

Speaking of outside, the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships are also going on in the Cities. My toes are getting cold just thinking about it.

Let's hope the Gophers can rediscover its offense and rebound from its first home loss in over a year.
