Jury selection began today for Scooter Libby, who is charged with lying in the Rove/not Rove/Cheney/Rove for sure/definately not Rove/Libby/Armitage/Plame scandal. And, despite the fact that Valerie Plame was not a covert agent protected by any level of secrecy or that Richard Armitage has confessed to being the leak, it is Libby who will now face trial...for, apparently, not lying about not leaking the name of a non-covert agent.
Crazy.
There is good news. Media has started to slowly back away from Joe Wilson:
The trial should give the public glimpses of how administration insiders responded to a high-level critic - former ambassador Joseph Wilson - who claimed the president and his closest advisers distorted intelligence and lied to push the nation into war with Iraq.
Of course, it should read "intentionally falsely claimed" but hey, at least they've stopped using "debunked."
UPDATE: The Rocky Mountain News sums up not only the trial, but this entire fiasco, which regardless of substance has captured the imagination of those addicted to D.C. politics:
The proceedings should make for fascinating courtroom drama - except that there is no underlying crime.
