Newsmax is reporting that Ted Kennedy will be the point man for the Democratic Party's obstructionism in the upcoming Supreme Court nominee battle.
Kennedy's statement Friday: "If the President abuses his power and nominates someone who threatens to roll back the rights and freedoms of the American people, then the American people will insist that we oppose that nominee, and we intend to do so."
On "This Week," Kennedy barked, "If he wants to pick a judge, we want to be able to support him. But if he wants to have a fight about it, then that's going to be the case."
There is one sure-fire way to neutralize Kennedy on this issue. The Republicans should simply nominate Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown, or William Pryor. After all, it was Kennedy who said on the senate floor that the judicial compromise sent a clear message to the Bush administration that extreme nominees will not be tolerated.
None of these three then, who were all confirmed after that compromise, would qualify as "extreme" appointments and should enjoy a quick up-or-down vote and the unwavering support of Ted Kennedy himself.
See how simple that was? I oughta get paid for this.
