What treasonous activities could possibly have The Volokh Conspiracy saying "Sounds like the real thing, not hyperbole," and Dr. Rusty Shackleford saying, "If true, send them to the firing squad?"
The Washington Post, via Michelle Malkin, is reporting that five Americans have been arrested in Iraq for participating in insurgent activites.
Three of those being detained are Iraqi-Americans; another is an Iranian-American; the fifth is a Jordanian-American, Whitman said. The three Iraqi-Americans were captured in April, May and June, officials said. The Iranian-American was captured May 17, one official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the cases.
One of the Iraqi-Americans allegedly had knowledge of planning for an attack, and another was possibly involved in a kidnapping, Whitman said. The third was "engaged in suspicious activity," he said, declining to be more specific.
Of the five, the Jordanian would appear to be the most highly placed of the lot, and the U.S. is currently trying to decide if their cases will be turned over to the Justice Department, or to the Iraqi legal system.
Shock and dismay can be the only reaction to the three Iraqis, the Iranian, and the Jordanian that are suspected of insurgent activites. But the hardest blow is being felt among the staunchly politically correct. Seriously, what is the world coming to when "hyphen American" doesn't seem to stand for anything?
