WELL...THE RETRACTION IS IN FROM NEWSWEAK, 16 deaths and over a hundred injuries too late. And for that, it's not even a very good retraction. Reporter Micheal Isikoff believes his ethics are intact and editor Mark Whitaker has embraced a nuanced approach to reporting.

Isikoff said Sunday that "there was absolutely no lapse in journalistic standards," noting that the Pentagon declined an opportunity to challenge the story before it was published.

On sensitive stories, Whitaker said, journalists often have to rely on whether officials "deny them or how vehemently they deny them."

Note to the Pentagon. Go heavier on the vehemence please.
