JOHN PODHORETZ PUTS MAJOR SHIFTS IN media consumption over the last year into it's proper perspective. The box office is hurting, newspapers have lost 13% in readership, TV is losing prime viewers, radio is suffering and, according to Podhoretz, the recording industry is in "tatters."
So John, what does it all mean?
...it can't be a coincidence that the five major pillars of the American media — movies, television, radio, recorded music and newspapers — are all suffering at the same time. And it isn't. Something major has changed over the past year, as the availability of alternative sources of information and entertainment has finally reached critical mass.
The column is reasonably short and has a great ending. Read the whole thing.

Kasia,
In that sense the media is kind of like the Democratic Party. There is a lot of longing for days gone by and very little in the way of plans for the future.
Frankly, I love watching the self-important jerks squirm. Especially...especially the recording industry.
