AS IF FILIBUSTER AND SOCIAL SECURITY LIES aren't enough to keep us busy, the Democrats have been active lately in their usual assaults on budgetary matters. So I thought it would be nice, as a refresher, to note the difference between a "budget cut" and a decrease to expected increases. Apparently the AP, via Power Line, hasn't figured it out yet.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House narrowly passed a $2.6 trillion budget Thursday evening that would cut back the Medicaid health care program for the poor for the first time since 1997 in a step toward trimming federal deficits...

...Medicaid, the federal-state health program for needy and disabled Americans, gets marked for the single biggest change, a $10 billion reduction over four years...

Well, not exactly. In English that means that the expected annual increase of $30 billion in Medicaid spending will be reduced to an annual increase of $27.5 billion. Only Democrats could translate a $27.5 billion annual increase into "dangerous budget cuts," and "an assault on our values."

The left's willingness to tell blatant lies to the American people is actually kind of impressive, if you stop and think about it. Most people could never be so obvious about it, or live with themselves afterward. Then again, the Democrats have so much practice that lies come with an ease that almost inspires awe.

It is also a testament to the gullibility of their base, who will pass these lies on ad nauseum.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the majority of Republicans are simply ex-Democrats who got sick of being lied to by their own party. At least, that's my excuse.
